Kashmir’s crown jewel, Dal Lake, is set to take centre stage as it will host the first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival from August 21 to 23.
This landmark event marks Dal Lake’s debut as a venue for national-level water sports, with over 400 athletes from 36 States and Union Territories set to compete in rowing, kayaking, and canoeing.
Organised jointly by the Sports Authority of India and the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, the festival showcases the Sports Ministry’s growing commitment to turning Jammu and Kashmir into a premier sports destination.
This inaugural water sports carnival is part of a larger vision under the Khelo Bharat Initiative, which aims to expand India’s sporting footprint from traditional stadia to unique natural landscapes.
