Continuous heavy rains in Mumbai have severely disrupted normal life. Suburban rail services were hit hard, with major delays throughout the day. After an eight-hour suspension, a train from CSMT to Kalyan finally departed around 8 p.m. yesterday. However, all lines of the Central Railway have now resumed services.
On Tuesday, heavy rainfall led to flooding in several low-lying areas, including Hindmata, Sion, Kings Circle, and Wadala, causing major disruptions to road traffic. Traffic diversions were implemented at many locations.
The situation worsened in the afternoon when the Mithi River crossed the danger level, resulting in water entering urban areas. In response, five teams of the NDRF were deployed for relief and rescue operations, evacuating 350 residents from Kurla Kranti Nagar to a safer location.
An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai and surrounding areas for Wednesday.
