The National Democratic Alliance candidate C. P. Radhakrishnan filed his nomination papers today for the post of Vice President of India.
The nomination was filed at Parliament House and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who acted as the chief proposer in the first set of nomination papers.
BJP President J. P. Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, among other leaders, also accompanied Radhakrishnan.
The nomination was submitted to the Returning Officer (Secretary General of Rajya Sabha) in four sets, each containing the signatures of 20 proposers and 20 seconders.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is Radhakrishnan’s campaign manager, while Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will serve as his election agent. The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for 9 September.
The nomination comes just days after Prime Minister Modi praised Radhakrishnan, describing him as a leader with “dedication, humility, and intellect,” who has consistently worked towards empowering marginalized communities.
C. P. Radhakrishnan, currently serving as the Governor of Meghalaya, is a senior BJP leader with decades of experience in legislative and administrative roles. A former MP from Tamil Nadu, he is known for his strong grassroots connect and focus on social upliftment.
