India today celebrates 79th Independence Day. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) is a key pillar of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. From the ramparts of the Red Fort, he highlighted India’s growing strength across defence, technology, space, manufacturing, and energy sectors—placing self-reliance at the heart of national dignity, security, and progress.
Defence Self-Reliance & Operation Sindoor
PM Modi hailed Operation Sindoor as a symbol of India’s growing defence autonomy, powered by indigenous weapons and strategic capabilities. He stressed that India must not rely on foreign defence support to ensure national security.
Jet Engine Development Challenge
The Prime Minister called upon youth and scientists to take up the challenge of developing Made-in-India jet engines, underlining the importance of home-grown defence technology.
Semiconductors & High-Tech Innovation
Modi announced that India will produce its first Made-in-India semiconductor chip by the end of 2025, a milestone in India’s journey toward tech sovereignty. He also highlighted innovation in AI, deep-tech, cyber security, and operating systems to position India globally.
Space Sector Breakthroughs
Referring to Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s achievements, the PM announced India’s plan for a domestic space station, while noting over 300 startups are working on satellites and space technologies. India, he said, is not just participating but leading the global space race.
Clean & Renewable Energy Goals
PM Modi declared that India had already achieved its 2030 target of 50% clean energy by 2025. He highlighted massive strides in solar, hydro, nuclear, and hydrogen energy—driving India towards full energy independence.
Tenfold Nuclear Energy Expansion
India aims to increase nuclear energy capacity tenfold by its 100th year of independence. PM Modi also announced 10 new nuclear reactors, with private sector participation to boost the sector’s reach.
National Critical Minerals Mission
To ensure control over key industrial and defence resources, PM Modi launched the National Critical Minerals Mission, exploring 1,200 sites to secure vital minerals.
National Deepwater Exploration Mission
India will now tap into its deep-sea energy reserves, reducing reliance on foreign fuel imports and bolstering long-term energy security.
Agricultural Independence
PM Modi stressed the importance of domestic fertiliser production to strengthen farmers’ welfare and national food security.
Digital Sovereignty
He urged youth to build indigenous digital platforms and secure India’s data infrastructure. “Digital independence is essential for national independence,” he emphasized.
Pharmaceutical Self-Reliance
Reiterating India’s status as the “pharmacy of the world,” the PM called for increased investment in R&D, vaccine development, and innovation. He urged Indian scientists to secure patents and create affordable medicines for global well-being.
Vocal for Local: Strengthening Swadeshi Movement
PM Modi appealed to both citizens and shopkeepers to embrace and promote Indian-made goods, suggesting “Swadeshi” signboards to visibly support the Vocal for Local movement.
Mission Sudarshan ChakraPM Modi announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, aimed at neutralising enemy infiltrations and bolstering offensive defence operations. Drawing from the symbolism of Shri Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra, he emphasized how India’s cultural heritage is shaping its modern defence strategies.
