Mobile and Computer giant Apple has rejected claims made by Elon Musk that its App Store unfairly promotes OpenAI’s ChatGPT over competing AI applications, including Musk’s own chatbot, Grok.

Musk alleged that Apple was breaching antitrust laws by making it virtually impossible for any AI company other than OpenAI to secure the top position in the App Store. In response, Apple stated that its App Store is “designed to be fair and free of bias,” with app rankings based on objective factors like user engagement, reviews, and downloads.

The controversy led to a sharp exchange between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who called the accusations “remarkable” and accused Musk of using his social media platform, X, to favor his own businesses. Musk fired back by calling Altman a “liar.”
