Sand miner drowns after boat capsizes in Pulwama

After a boat capsized in the Jhelum River at Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a 25-year-old sand miner from Kulgam drowned on Wednesday, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of CR Pora Damhal, Kulgam. According to officials, Bhat had been working as a sand miner in the area.

Soon after the mishap, rescue teams launched an operation to retrieve the body. Efforts were underway till last reports came in. Further details are awaited.

Pulwama Police have taken cognizance of the incident.
