The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains and thunderstorms in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh between August 10 and August 14.

The IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for nine districts in Uttarakhand. It also warned of extremely bad weather with the potential to disrupt commutes due to road and rail closures, as well as interruptions in power supply.

In Himachal Pradesh, due to rain and thunderstorms, authorities have closed a total of 360 roads. This includes the Aut-Sainj road, which is part of National Highway-305.

The state has witnessed 58 flash floods, 54 major landslides, and 30 cloudbursts, reporting losses amounting to ₹1,989 crore since the beginning of the monsoon season.
