Ferocious wildfires tearing across Europe’s Greece, Spain, and France have forced thousands to flee, leaving a deadly trail of destruction in their wake.
In Central Greece, a wildfire killed at least one person and destroyed homes and farmland as firefighters struggled to contain multiple blazes.
The fires come amid forecasts of several days of gale-force winds. Around Keratea, located 30 kilometers southwest of the capital, 11 planes, 12 helicopters, and 170 firefighters have been deployed to extinguish he fire.
Northwestern Spain is witnessing its worst wildfire since 1949. The fire has killed one woman who ignored evacuation orders, injured 18 people—including 16 firefighters—destroyed 36 homes, and forced the evacuation of 2,000 residents and tourists.
Meanwhile, in France, fire crews are also battling multiple wildfires as southern Europe faces extreme heat and drought.
Scientists warn that such conditions are being intensified due to the climate change.
