President Murmu Hosts Philippines President Marcos

President Droupadi Murmu received President of Philippines, Ferdinand R Marcos Jr at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. She also hosted a banquet in his honour.

Welcoming President Marcos Jr. on his first state visit to India, the President said that India and the Philippines share a longstanding friendship which is based on civilizational contacts, historical ties, and common values.

The President said that both countries have common interests and concerns in the maritime domain, especially in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, and Search and Rescue – as partners, we can learn a lot from each other in these fields.

The two leaders agreed that this visit, which coincides with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, will help in building a stronger partnership between India and the Philippines.

Earlier in the day President Marcos was accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan and he visited Raj Ghat to pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. This was followed by bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and President Marcos.

Thereafter, the leaders witnessed the exchange of bilateral documents. President Marcos attended the luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Modi.

At the invitation of the Prime Minister of India, President Marcos on a state visit to India on 4-8 August 2025 a high-level official delegation including several Cabinet Ministers of the Philippines and a high-level business delegation.
