As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, Puducherry Health Department organized an awareness walk today to highlight the importance of breastfeeding. Health Secretary Jayant Kumar Ray flagged off the event.
Over 500 medical students and doctors from various government and private institutions participated. ANMs and ASHA workers from Senji Salai PHC also joined the walk carrying placards with messages on breastfeeding, breast milk banks, and government support for public breastfeeding spaces.
The rally which began at the Directorate of Health concluded at Gandhi Thidal, passing through key city roads. Health Officials emphasized that breastfeeding within an hour of birth, exclusive breastfeeding for six months, and continued breastfeeding up to two years with complementary food is vital for a child’s health and development.
