It was paws, paddles, and plenty of cheer at the UK Dog Surfing Championships in Poole, southwestern England—where canine competitors made quite a splash.

With little wave action this year, dogs and their humans raced on paddle boards, bringing a twist to the usually wave-powered competition.

The crowd had even more to cheer for, as three Guinness World Records were broken—including the fastest 50 metres on a paddle board by a human-dog duo.

Inspired by similar surf contests in Australia and California, the UK event began in 2018 and is now held every two years.
