Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Male today to a warm reception from Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who received him at the airport. The gesture reflected the strong and longstanding ties between India and the Maldives.
Members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers to welcome the Prime Minister, chanting “Modi, Modi” and waving Indian flags. Their enthusiastic presence highlighted the deep people-to-people connection shared between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day State Visit to the Maldives from July 25–26, 2025, at the invitation of President Muizzu. This marks his third visit to the country and the first by any foreign Head of Government during Muizzu’s presidency.
Prime Minister Modi will attend the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives as the ‘Guest of Honour,’ on 26 July, His participation underscores India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and its enduring commitment to regional partnership through Vision MAHASAGAR.
The visit is expected to deepen cooperation in key areas such as defence, maritime security, trade, and sustainable development. It aims to further consolidate the close friendship and strategic partnership between the two maritime neighbours.
