Vice President Jagadeep Dhankhar born to Late Shri Gokal Chand and Late Srimati Kesari Devi on 18 May, 1951 in Village Kithana of Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.

He had his early education from Class 1 to 5 in village Kithana, at the Government Primary School. Then in Class 6 he took admission in the Government Middle School, Ghardhana, at a distance of 4-5 kms and travelled on foot along with other village students to the school.

In 1962, after successfully passing the Chittorgarh, Sainik School Entrance Examination, he got admitted in the School on Full Merit Scholarship.

He passed from Chittorgarh, Sainik School, after taking the Indian School Certificate Examination recognized by the Cambridge University.

Dhankhar graduated in B.Sc. (Honors) Physics from Maharaja’s College, Jaipur, affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. He did his LLB from the University of Rajasthan from 1978-1979.

The Vice President married to Dr Sudesh Dhankhar in 1979. He has a daughter (Smt. Kamna).

He Was enrolled with the Bar Council of Rajasthan as an Advocate with effect from 10 November, 1979.

He was designated as Senior Advocate by the High Court of Judicature for Rajasthan with effect from 27 March 1990. Since 1990 Jagdeep Dhankhar had been practicing primarily in the Supreme Court and his focus area of litigation have been in the field of Steel, Coal, Mining and International Commercial Arbitration, amongst others.

He has appeared in various High Courts in the country and was the senior-most designated Senior Advocate of the State till assuming the Office of the Governor on 30 July, 2019.

Dhankhar served as the Minister of State, in Parliament Affairs Ministry when Chandra Sekhar was the Prime Minister from 21 November 1990 to 21 June 1991.

He was a Member of Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan from 04 December 1993 to 29 November 1998.

Jagdeep Dhankhar served as the Governor of West Bengal before becoming the Vice President of India in July 2022.
