Direct air service from Hindon Airport in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad to nine major cities of the country started on Monday, with an aim to help decongest Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu launched new flights to Bengaluru, Kolkata, Varanasi, Goa, Patna, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Indore.

The flights will be operated by IndiGo, becoming the second airline to mark its presence at Hindon Airport. Four months ago, Air India Express started its operations here.

The minister termed the achievement as the “Udan of the ambitions and aspirations of common Indians.”

With operations from both airports, flyers based in the National Capital Region will be served more efficiently. The government aims to make India a global aviation hub by 2030.

Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said the move will significantly boost regional air connectivity, especially for NCR and parts of western Uttar Pradesh.

The new connectivity marks a significant step towards strengthening air connectivity for the Delhi NCR region, offering convenient travel options for Ghaziabad, Noida, East and Central Delhi, and parts of Western Uttar Pradesh.

Hindon Airport was developed in 2019 under the visionary UDAN scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, transforming an unserved airport into a promising Civil Enclave.

Since then, aircraft movements at Hindon have increased by more than 10 times, and passenger traffic has also seen a tenfold rise to over 80,000 annual travellers.

“With the growing connectivity and rising passenger footfall, we are now working towards the expansion of the passenger capacity at Hindon,”  said Minister Naidu.
