To boost India’s creative economy, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw today inaugurated the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) campus at the NFDC premises in Mumbai. The institute aims to become a world-class talent hub, offering 18 specialized courses in Animation, Gaming, Post Production, Comics, and Extended Reality (XR), developed in collaboration with global industry leaders such as Google, Meta, and Adobe.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a government allocation of ₹400 crore for IICT’s development. He described the institute as a landmark initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower India’s youth and transform the creative sector.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised IICT’s rapid establishment, calling Mumbai the entertainment capital of India and highlighting the institute’s role in nurturing future creative leaders.
The minister also released the official outcome report of the inaugural World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), which attracted wide participation from industry leaders, startups, policymakers, and academia.
The report highlighted WAVES as a key convergence platform for India’s media and entertainment ecosystem, fostering collaboration across all sectors. The summit is set to become a flagship global event.
In addition, the Bharat Pavilion was inaugurated at Gulshan Mahal within the National Museum of Indian Cinema, NFDC Complex. Maharashtra’s Minister for IT and Cultural Affairs, Ashish Shelar, was present.
The Maharashtra government announced a ₹150 crore contribution to support upcoming editions of WAVES, reinforcing Mumbai’s status as the global capital of the creative economy.
