A massive fire broke out in Khrew’s Teli Mohalla of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening after a powerful gas cylinder blast inside a residential house triggered panic in the locality. The flames, which quickly spread to an adjoining house, caused extensive damage and left two families without shelter.

Locals said the explosion inside the two-storey house was so intense that residents rushed out in fear as thick smoke covered the area. Fire and Emergency Services teams, assisted by police and neighbours, acted swiftly to control the fire and stop it from engulfing more houses.

Despite the prompt response, one house was completely gutted while the adjoining house suffered heavy damage. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, though the blaze destroyed property worth several lakhs.

The Khrew Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the cylinder explosion. Residents have meanwhile urged the administration to provide urgent relief and rehabilitation for the affected families.
