Taking a major decision, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the United States will send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine to help defend against Russian attacks, despite worsening relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President Trump did not specify the number of systems to be provided, stating that the details have yet to be finalized. He emphasized that the U.S. would not cover the cost of the weapons as he renewed criticism of Putin.

This decision follows Washington’s recent announcement to pause certain arms deliveries to Kyiv just two weeks ago. Donald Trump also mentioned plans to meet NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte this week to discuss Ukraine and other matters.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for increased defensive capabilities to counter daily missile and drone attacks from Russia.
