U.S. President Donald Trump and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are schedule to meet at the White House on Monday. This marks Netanyahu’s third visit since Trump returned to power in January.

Hope for a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza remains high, with President Trump stating there is a “good chance” of a hostage deal ahead of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s meeting.

Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas took place in Qatar on Sunday but ended inconclusively, according to sources.

Donald Trump added that the United States is working on several issues with Israel, including the possibility of a permanent deal with Iran.

Before departing for the U.S., Netanyahu expressed confidence that his discussions with President Trump would help advance talks on a Gaza hostage release and a ceasefire deal.

The first round of indirect Hamas-Israel ceasefire talks in Qatar concluded without agreement, as the Israeli delegation reportedly lacked the mandate to finalize a deal with Hamas.

Netanyahu’s office issued a statement saying that the changes Hamas sought to the ceasefire proposal were unacceptable to Israel. However, the delegation will continue efforts in Qatar to secure the return of hostages based on a Qatari proposal that Israel has accepted.

Prior to his departure, Netanyahu expressed hope that his meeting with Trump would also address ongoing conflicts with Hamas and Iran.
