Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday unveiled a statue of Peshwa Bajirao I at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, calling it a tribute to the timeless spirit of Indian valour, sacrifice, and cultural pride.
Addressing the ceremony, Home Minister Shah said the NDA, where cadets of the Army, Navy, and Air Force undergo initial training, is the most fitting place to honour Bajirao’s legacy, which represents courage
Home Minister Amit Shah said that the statue would serve as a source of inspiration for generations of cadets. “Every future soldier passing out from this academy will draw strength from Peshwa Bajirao’s life, helping secure India’s borders with renewed resolve,” he said.
The Home Minister highlighted that Peshwa Bajirao led 41 successful military campaigns in just two decades and played a vital role in defending India’s cultural identity. He said such historical legacies should continue to guide and inspire the youth of the nation.
“While the tools of war evolve, the spirit of sacrifice and duty remains eternal,” said Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “Bajirao’s story will stand as a reminder of what dedication to one’s land truly means.”
He further added that India must work towards realising the vision of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and mentioned that initiatives like Operation Sindoor are key steps in that direction.
The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, along with Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command.
