Coast Guards from India, Japan, the United States, and Australia have jointly launched the first ‘QUAD at Sea Ship Observer Mission’ under the Wilmington Declaration, marking a new chapter in maritime cooperation.
Two officers, including women officers from each participating nation, have embarked on the US Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Stratton, currently en route to Guam. The deployment signals growing commitment to regional maritime security and gender-inclusive operations.
This cross-embarkation initiative marks an unprecedented collaboration among QUAD Coast Guards, aiming to bolster joint operational readiness, coordination, and domain awareness. It aligns with the shared vision outlined at the QUAD Leaders’ Summit in September 2024.
India’s role in the mission aligns with its SAGAR vision and the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), emphasizing regional security, humanitarian efforts, and adherence to maritime law. The initiative lays the groundwork for a future ‘QUAD Coast Guard Handshake’.
