Mumbai Customs (Zone-III) has arrested an Indian national for attempting to smuggle exotic wildlife species into India. The passenger arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport on Friday, from Bangkok by Flight No. 6E1052. Based on passenger screening, Customs officers intercepted the individual for further checks.
Upon questioning, the passenger exhibited signs of nervousness. Subsequent examination of the baggage led to the discovery of several exotic wildlife species being carried illegally.
The following exotic species were recovered:
1. Garter Snake (Thamnophis spp.) – 2 Nos.
2. Rhinoceros Rat Snake (Gonyosoma boulengeri) – 5 Nos.
3. Albino Rat Snake (Pantherophis guttatus) – 1 No.
4. Kenyan Sand Boa (Gongylophis colubrinus) – 2 Nos.
5. Coastal Banded California King Snake (Lampropeltis californiae) – 1 No.
6. Albino Honduran Milk Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum hondurensis) – 5 Nos.
The animals were seized under a Panchanama dated 28 June 2025. The passenger has been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 and further investigation into the matter is underway.
