A suicide bombing claimed by a faction of the Pakistani Taliban killed 16 soldiers and injured more than two dozen people, including civilians, local officials, and police officers.

The attack occurred in North Waziristan, where a suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy, according to a local government official.

The powerful blast also caused the roofs of two nearby houses to collapse, leaving six children injured.

The suicide bomber wing of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur armed group, a known faction of the Pakistani Taliban, later claimed responsibility for the attack.
