Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) set a new record by producing over 225 million tonnes of coal in FY 25, marking a 9% increase compared to the previous FY. MCL is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited and one of India’s leading coal-producing companies.
In the financial year 2024-25, MCL supplied 210 million tonnes of coal to various power stations and other consumers. According to MCL, 98% of this coal was extracted through environmentally friendly surface mining methods. Additionally, 68% of total coal dispatch was carried out using eco-friendly transportation systems such as railways and the Merry-Go-Round (MGR) system.
The Chairman Cum Managing Director of MCL Uday A Kaole said that while last year the company loaded an average of 10 rakes per day, the number has now increased to 27 rakes per day. He said that this growth is due to the foresight and continuous monitoring by the Modi Government over the past eleven years.
He also mentioned that initiatives like PM Gati Shakti have significantly accelerated the transportation of coal to end-users.
To ensure smooth and transparent business operations, MCL is integrating IT-based solutions into its internal systems. This includes technologies such as CCTV surveillance and GPS-based vehicle tracking systems. In preparation for the future of India’s coal sector and in line with the Ministry of Coal’s diversification initiatives, MCL will also establish ground-mounted and floating solar power plants of worth 2000 crores with a combined capacity of 2000 megawatts
