As part of a large-scale security review, mock drills are being held at various locations across Kashmir especially around Nunwan Base Camp in preparation for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025.
These coordinated exercises involve multiple wings of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces, and emergency response units, all working together to simulate real-time scenarios and strengthen operational coordination.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, while addressing the media in Anantnag on Wednesday, emphasized the strategic depth of the security arrangements. “The deployment has been structured into distinct zones and sectors to streamline command and control,” Birdi explained. “Our focus is on ensuring clarity of roles and rapid responsiveness across all units.”
The mock drills are being conducted not only along the Yatra routes and highways but also at transit camps and within interior zones, ensuring full-spectrum readiness. These rehearsals include contingency scenarios such as sudden attacks, evacuation protocols, and route management during emergencies.
Highlighting the importance of community participation, the IGP acknowledged the vital role of the local population in ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage. “The support of local residents is integral. Every successful Yatra in the past has been marked by their cooperation and hospitality,” he said.
Birdi added that locals have shown active involvement by assisting pilgrims with logistics and services, reaffirming their commitment to the peaceful conduct of the religious event.
With multi-agency coordination, continuous reviews, and ground-level drills, security forces remain on high alert to manage both expected and unforeseen challenges during the Yatra.
