Mizoram’s new Bairabi-Sairang railway section has taken a vibrant cultural turn, with tunnel walls now adorned with striking murals that reflect the rich heritage of the Mizo people. The artwork, featuring traditional dance, attire, daily life, and the warrior spirit, celebrates the region’s deep-rooted connection with nature and community.
The murals come close on the heels of a successful safety inspection and speed trial conducted by Sumeet Singhal, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northeast Frontier Circle, earlier this month. With CRS clearance secured, the railway line is now nearing formal inauguration.
The Bairabi-Sairang rail project, which connects Mizoram’s capital Aizawl to the national rail network for the first time, promises to boost trade, tourism, and regional connectivity. According to the Ministry of Railways, the project is over 94.5% physically complete and 97% financially complete, with a revised cost of 5,021.45 crore rupees. The line was constructed through some of India’s most challenging terrain, highlighting the engineering feat involved.
As Mizoram awaits the official launch, the rail line stands as a symbol of connection, progress, and inclusion , turning what were once isolating hills into pathways of opportunity.
