Sri Lanka observes the International Day of Yoga, with synchronized Yoga performances held across 117 Ayurveda institutions on Thursday. The events were organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the cultural arm of the High Commission of India in Colombo, in collaboration with the Department of Ayurveda, Sri Lanka.
The coordinated initiative included participation from 113 Ayurveda hospitals and 4 universities, forming one of the largest structured Yoga outreach efforts in the country. The performances were conducted as part of a broader month-long campaign dedicated to the International Day of Yoga.
Dr. Dhammika Abeygunawardana, Commissioner General, Sri Lanka’s Department of Ayurveda, addressed the gathering and expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking Yoga to the international community.
The Yoga events were conducted with the objective of highlighting practices related to preventive health and physical well-being.
