The Consulate General of India in Shanghai celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga at the Lingshan Buddha Complex in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, on Tuesday. The event drew over 100 participants, promoting yoga and India-China cultural ties.
Held at one of the world’s largest bronze Buddha statues, the event brought together yoga enthusiasts, local residents, Indian expatriates, and students. The venue’s serene surroundings provided a symbolic and spiritual setting for the mass yoga session.
Participants performed a series of yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation practices aimed at enhancing physical and mental well-being. The session reflected yoga’s universal appeal and its relevance in promoting peace, health, and unity across cultures.
Consul General Pratik Mathur highlighted the significance of hosting the event at a historic site. He said the celebration underscored the growing global recognition of yoga and its role in strengthening centuries-old cultural and spiritual links between India and China.
International Day of Yoga, observed annually on June 21, was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. It was adopted with the support of 175 countries, recognizing yoga’s holistic approach to well-being.
As global preparations continue for this year’s International Yoga Day, the Wuxi celebration highlighted yoga’s growing international reach. It reaffirmed the ancient practice’s role in promoting sustainable living, global unity, and intercultural dialogue.
