Flights in Bali were cancelled on Wednesday following a powerful eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province, which sent ash plumes soaring 10 kilometers into the sky.

In response, authorities raised the volcano’s alert level to its highest classification. Several major airlines, including Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Air India, and AirAsia, suspended services due to the hazardous ash clouds affecting airspace.

Residents in the vicinity have been advised to remain at least seven kilometers away from the crater as a precaution. Officials reported ongoing tremors and expressed concern over the possibility of mudflows, especially if heavy rainfall occurs.

While Bali’s airport remains open, flight operations continue to face disruptions as volcanic activity persists.
