102 Years old Veteran Women Officer participates in the 84th raising day of Assam Regiment

Assam Rifles organized wreath laying ceremonies at the War Memorials in Aizawl and Lunglei, Mizoram on 16 Jun 2025 commemorating the 84th raising day of Assam Regiment.

Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.), graced the occasion, solemnly honoring its illustrious legacy. He laid a wreath at the War Memorial, Treasury Square, paying heartfelt tribute to the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Governor Singh met 98-year-old World War II veteran and Padma Shri awardee Lalbiakthanga Pachuau during the event. It was an amazing moment, when the event saw a 102 year-old World War II veteran, Lieutenant Mauii, a women officer from Auxiliary Nursing Services, participate.

Wreaths were also laid by Senior Officials from Assam Rifles, Chairperson of the Mizoram Ex-Servicemen League, and the Chairman of Assam Regt Ex Servicemen Association.

83 veterans (Officers, JCOs, and OR) and several serving officers from Aizawl attended the event. The Governor also interacted with veterans, expressing sincere gratitude for their service to the nation.

Wreath laying ceremony was also conducted at Lunglei War Memorial, which was attended  by Assam Rifles personnel, ex-servicemen of Assam Regiment and other dignitaries, including DC of Lunglei, Mrs. Navneet Mann.
