U.S. President Donald Trump hosted the largest U.S. military parade in decades on Saturday, coinciding with his 79th birthday. Trump hailed the United States as “the hottest country in the world.”

More than 7,000 troops marched alongside 150 military vehicles, including over 25 M1 Abrams tanks, 28 Stryker armored vehicles, four Paladin self-propelled artillery units, and artillery pieces such as the M777 and M119, displayed through the streets of Washington D.C.

According to the Army, the event cost nearly $45 million. The parade traced the history of the U.S. Army from its founding during the Revolutionary War to the present day.

The last major military parade of this scale in the U.S. took place at the end of the 1991 Gulf War. This renewed show of force comes as Trump seeks to reinforce his power both at home and abroad. In his address, Trump issued a strong warning to America’s adversaries, promising their “total and complete” defeat.
