Iran has accused Israel of deliberately sabotaging a potential breakthrough in nuclear negotiations by launching strikes that derailed a planned sixth round of talks in Oman.
Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani revealed that Tehran had been prepared to advance nuclear negotiations before the Israeli offensive on Friday disrupted diplomatic efforts.
“We were never eager for war. We made every effort to prevent it. We were ready to present our programme in the sixth round, but they did not leave room for this,” Mohajerani said during a televised address.
Foreign Minister Dr Abbas Araqchi also condemned the attacks, accusing Israel of intentional disruption and alleging U.S. backing for the strikes. While Washington had reportedly been pushing for a deal to curb Iran’s nuclear programme, Israel views Tehran’s nuclear ambitions as an existential threat.
The collapse of talks comes amid rising regional tensions. Iran has cancelled all domestic and international flights and announced the opening of schools and metro stations as emergency shelters. The government assured citizens that food and shelter would be provided as security conditions worsen.
Despite escalating hostilities, Tehran maintains that its nuclear programme is strictly civilian, a claim dismissed by Israel and viewed with skepticism by the West.
