Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has invited Swedish business leaders to explore investment opportunities in India, emphasising the country’s complementary strengths and the potential for enhanced economic cooperation under the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
After arriving in Stockholm from a successful visit to Switzerland, the Minister held a series of meetings with his Swedish counterpart and leading representatives from the business community. Discussions focused on strengthening ties in clean energy, digital technologies, climate solutions, healthcare, life sciences, and skill development.
While addressing the India-Sweden High-Level Trade and Investment Policy Forum, Piyush Goyal engaged with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprises and leading business figures. A joint paper on the India-EU FTA was released at the event, underscoring the shared vision for inclusive growth and deeper trade relations.
The Minister noted that the India-Sweden relationship serves as a model for how two diverse economies can collaborate effectively. He stressed the importance of translating bilateral discussions into actionable partnerships that generate concrete outcomes for both countries.
At the Ministerial meeting of the Indo-Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation, Piyush Goyal said the exchange of capital, talent, and technology forms the backbone of the bilateral economic relationship. He identified science, innovation, and technology as the most dynamic areas of ongoing cooperation.
The Minister shared the platform with Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, during the concluding session of the Joint Commission. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing collaboration in future-focused sectors.
Piyush Goyal also interacted with Swedish industry leaders at a business dinner hosted by the Sweden-India Business Council and the Embassy of India. He highlighted India’s progress in research, development, and innovation, driven by a highly skilled and competitive workforce.
Encouraging Swedish companies to consider India as a strategic investment destination, the Minister pointed to the country’s strong economic fundamentals, its sustainable growth trajectory, and its goal of achieving ‘Zero Defect, Zero Effect’ in manufacturing as key factors for long-term business partnerships.
