Russia and Ukraine’s conflict escalated with a new drone attack on Kyiv early Tuesday. The attack caused one death and damaged homes and other buildings. Russia said the strike was retaliation for recent Ukrainian actions inside Russia.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared his statement in social media platform X:
“Russian missile and Shahed strikes drown out the efforts of the United States and others around the world to force Russia into peace. For yet another night, instead of a ceasefire, there were massive strikes with Shahed drones, cruise and ballistic missiles. Today was one of the largest attacks on Kyiv. Odesa, Dnipro region, and Chernihiv region were also targeted.
In total, Russia used 315 drones in the attack, including 250 Shaheds, and 7 missiles, 2 of which were North Korean-made ballistic missiles. Residential buildings and urban infrastructure were damaged. In Odesa, even a maternity hospital became a Russian target. Thirteen people were injured. Tragically, there are fatalities. My condolences to the families.”

Meanwhile, both countries started a prisoner exchange on Monday. This is part of an agreement made in Istanbul last week. Russia released young soldiers under 25, and Ukraine returned a similar number of prisoners of war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, “Today, the exchange began – the first stage of the agreement reached in Istanbul. There will be several stages – at least, this is what was discussed with the Russian side. This exchange includes the wounded, severely wounded, and those aged 25 and younger. The exchange process is expected to continue for more than one day.”
