In a tragic incident, near Mumbra railway station in Thane, adjacent to Mumbai, several passengers fell from a moving local train. Out of the 13 injured, four people have died, including a Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer.
Following the accident, Central Railway has announced that all existing train rakes will be replaced. According to Central Railway CPRO Swapnil Dhanraj Neela, the railway board has decided to upgrade all rakes with automatic door-closing systems to prevent such incidents in the future. He appealed to passengers to avoid traveling on footboards.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his grief on social media platform X, writing: “It is extremely unfortunate that passengers fell from the train between Diva and Mumbra stations, resulting in loss of life. I pay my heartfelt tributes to the deceasedand stand with their families in this moment of grief.”

He added that the injured were immediately admitted to Shivaji Hospital and Thane General Hospital for treatment, and that the local administration is coordinating efforts. An investigation into the exact cause of the accident has begun.
Fadnavis further stated that, based on preliminary information, the accident occurred when passengers traveling on the footboard of a train headed toward Kasara collided with commuters hanging from a CSMT-bound train coming from the opposite direction. The impact caused several people to fall.
State Minister Girish Mahajan visited the injured in hospital and later announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each for the families of the deceased. The government will also bear the cost of medical treatment for the injured.
