Meghalaya Police today secured a three-day transit remand for Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband, Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi. The alleged crime took place during their honeymoon trip in Meghalaya.

Earlier in the day, police brought Sonam to a police station in Patna, Bihar, from where she is being taken to Shillong for further investigation. She had remained untraceable since 23 May 2025, when the couple went missing, until surrendering in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on 08 June .

The case escalated after Raja’s body was recovered on June 2 from a gorge near the Weisawdong Parking Lot in Meghalaya. The incident, initially treated as a missing persons case, was converted into a murder probe following the discovery.

Police suspect Raja was allegedly killed by contract killers reportedly hired by his wife. Investigations suggest the motive behind the murder may be linked to an extramarital affair involving Sonam Raghuvanshi.

Earlier on Monday, Meghalaya Police obtained transit remand for three other accused in connection with the case. Those arrested include Raj Singh Kushwaha, Vishal Singh Chauhan from Indore, Aakash Rajput from Lalitpur, and Anand from Bina in Sagar district.

The murder case, which has drawn attention across multiple states, continues to be investigated by Meghalaya Police.
