In a shocking twist to what began as a honeymoon trip, the body of Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore was recovered from a ditch in Shillong, Meghalaya, on 02 June 2025. He had been missing since May 23.
In a dramatic development, his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi surrendered at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The Meghalaya Police, investigating the suspected murder, have made a breakthrough with the arrest of three individuals—two from Indore and one from Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh. All are believed to be involved in the killing of Raja Raghuvanshi.
The couple had reportedly travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon when the incident occurred. The case has stirred public attention and drawn a response from Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. Taking to social media platform X, commending the swift action of the police and confirming that substantial progress was made within just seven days of the investigation he wrote:
“Within 7 days a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice  in the Raja murder case … 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female  has surrendered  and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant .. well done #meghalayapolice”
According to CM Sangma, the arrest of three suspects and the voluntary surrender of the fourth accused, Sonam, mark a major success for the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case.
Meanwhile, the investigation continues at full pace, with the police probing the motive and piecing together the full extent of the conspiracy behind the gruesome murder.
