The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña Palacios, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi today. During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar called on the Paraguayan President. Dr. Jaishankar shared a post on X and wrote, “Pleased to call on Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña Palacios at the start of his State Visit to India. Appreciate his positive sentiments and guidance for enhancing India and Paraguay cooperation in many domains.”
He further added, “Confident that his talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will open new avenues for India’s engagement with Paraguay and the South America region.”
President Santiago Peña Palacios will also meet President Droupadi Murmu.
On his arrival, Paraguay President Santiago Peña Palacios received a ceremonial welcome and a Guard of Honour as he arrived in India on a three-day visit. During his visit, President Santiago Peña Palacios reached Rajghat and paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s samadhi.
The marks President Peña’s first visit to India and only the second-ever visit by a President of Paraguay. Diplomatic relations between India and Paraguay were established in 1961. Since then, the two nations have maintained cordial and friendly ties.
