The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri Awards for the year 2025 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 28 April 2025.
Three Singers from Bollywood got Padma Awards. Pankaj Udhas got Padma Bibhushan posthumously, whereas Dr Jaspinder Narula and Arijit Singh got Padma Shri.
Pankaj Udhas
Pankaj Keshubhai Udhas, known as the was not just a ghazal Velvet Voice of India, singer but a musical institution and a bridge between tradition and modernity.
Born on 17 May, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat, Udhas grew up in a home filled with poetry and melodies. Though he had no formal classical training, his dedication and passion for music shaped him into one of the most revered voices of his time.
His breakthrough came with Chitthi Aayi Hai Naam, from the 1986 film, a song that continues to resonate with millions of fans worldwide. Throughout his career, he delivered timeless hits, such as Ghungroo Toot Gaye, Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein, Jeeye To Jeeye Kaise, and each capturing the depth and emotion of ghazals.
Dr. Jaspinder NarulaÂ
Dr. Jaspinder Narula Kaul is a celebrated Bollywood playback singer, who shot to fame after her super chartbuster “Pyar to Hona hi Tha” from the film ‘Pyar To Hona Hi Tha’ for which she won the 1999 Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award & Star Screen Best Female Playback Singer Award.
Dr. Narula was born on 14 November, 1966 in a musical family. Her father S. Kesar Singh th Narula, was a renowned music composer of Punjabi Film & Music industry and her mother Mohini Narula was a noted Punjabi & Haryanvi Folk singer.
Apart from her father, her Gurus were Pt Sita Ram ji & Ghulam Sadiq Khan Sahib of Rampur Sahaswan Gharana. Dr. Narula’s career started at a very early age when she was discovered as a wonder child and in 1974 her first singing tour abroad started with shows in UK & Canada.
And thereon she kept travelling across the globe delighting billions of music lovers with her melodious voice and heart rendering numbers. Her 1 Super 7 record of devotional songs was released by HMV (His Master’s Voice) in 1975.
Arijit Singh
