Huge casualties happened due to a severe earthquake of 7.7 magnitude struck Mandalay in Myanmar and Thiland on 28 March 2025. Myanmar Junta has declared as the National Emergency. The death toll crossed 1,000 and could exceed 10,000 according to United States Geological Survey(USGS).

Rescue operations are on. According to a report of CNN International, China and India have sent rescue operation teams and essential aid.

S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, Government of India stated Operation Brahma in full swing. First tranche of humanitarian aid from India has reached the Yangon Airport in Myanmar today.

A 80-member strong NDRF search & rescue team from India also departed for Nay Pyi Taw. They will assist the rescue operations in Myanmar. The External Affairs Minister shared the information in his account X.

 

 

When report last came in, the first consignment of relief material was formally handed over to Chief Minister of Yangon U Soe Thein by Ambassador Abhay Thakur in Yangon today.

Buildings were also collapsed in Thai capital Bangkok resulting 10 people died and Nearly 100 people expected trapped inside an under-construction building. Rescue operations are on in Thailand as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Senior General Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. PM Modi Conveyed the deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake.

Spoke with Senior General H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. Conveyed our deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake. As a close friend and neighbour, India stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour. Disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, search & rescue teams are being expeditiously dispatched to the affected areas as part of #operationbrahma
