The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the Sports and Adventure Awards 2024 at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan ton 17 January 2025. The Awards include Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awards-2024; Dronacharya Awards-2024; Arjuna Awards-2024; Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards-2023; Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar-2024; and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy-2024.
D Gukesh, most outstanding chess player of the country won the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2024. His most prominent achievements in 2024 are, won the Gold medal at FIDE World Chess (classical), Gold medal at 45th Chess Olympiad (open team) and Gold medal at 45th Chess Olympiad (individual).
Other Sports persons who won the Major Dhayn Chand Khel Ratna Award are Indian Hockey Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Para-Athletics player Praveen Kumar and Shooter Manu Bhakar.
Harmanpreet Singh got the Award for his achievements like two Olympic Bronze Medals one in Tokyo, one in France and a Gold medal at 19th Asian Games in 2023 at Hangzhou, China.
Para-Athlete High-Jumper Praveen Kumar had won Gold in Paris, Silver in Tokyo and Gold in 4th Asian Para Games, Hangzhou.
Manu Bhakar had won two Bronze Medals in Shooting at Paris Olympics.
Sayani Das got the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award for her achievements like crossing the English Channel (From England to France) in 14 hours 8 minutes, Rottnest Channel in 6 hours 42 minutes, Molokai Channel in 18 hours 50 minutes, Catalina Channel in 12 hours 46 minutes.
