To address the Challenges and shape the future of coastal shipping Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) organized a workshop at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar on 17 January 2025. The theme of the workshop was “Coastal shipping policy of Gujarat: Paradigm shift in supply chain.”
Vice Chairman and CEO of GMB Rajkumar Beniwal inaugurated the workshop. Representatives from the industry who participated in the event were DG, Shipping, Ultra Tech Cement Ltd, Deendayal Port Authority, Shipping Corporation of India, Kerala Maritime Board, Maharashtra Maritime Board, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZL), DP World and Segal Group of Companies.
A panel discussion was deliberated on the topic “Coastal Shipping: Opportunities offered by Coastal shipping for Gujarat”. The key speakers put their valuable and insightful thoughts on the topic. The session was moderated by Devdatta Bose, Sr. General Manager, Tata Consulting Engineers.
Emphasizing on the Coastal Policy Capt. Priya Ranjan Behera, Ultra Tech Ports and Shipping gave valuable suggestions like maintaining approach channels to the coastal jetties through maintenance dredging. He urged to provide Government incentives to promote Coastal Shipping. He stressed on developing new coastal jetties and to promote coastal cargo service.
Capt. Unmesh Abhayankar, Joint President, APSEZL said to develop suitable coastal vessels to optimize maximum cargo with available depth.
Other Speakers in the panel Rohit Bajaj, CEO, Segal Group of Companies and Capt. Praveen Kumar CPO, Maharashtra Maritime Board also put their valuable suggestions for the development of coastal shipping.
The workshop highlighted Gujarat’s pivotal role in India’s growth in coastal shipping sector.
